Catholic classical education is by its very design an endowment. It is for us to give to future generations. By way of example, my Grandmother’s recipe for Makovnik at Christmas is a gift or endowment to our family and a link to the past (even though many don’t love it like me). It’s pride of place comes from the fact that it was made, formed and loved into existence. It is a piece of the culture of our family Christmas, our heritage. 

Western civilization for many reasons has cheapened this grand endowment out of ignorance and for expediency and cost. Why make the makovnic, I mean really, grinding all that poppyseed by hand?  The labor, the attention, the skill of baking, the time, it is too much fuss. You know, the bakery section at Costco is pretty good and the pumpkin pies are a great value and you don’t have to make a mess and, and and…

What I mean is that we are slipping quickly, trading an active life for a passive one, especially in education. We look to be dimly entertained as opposed to deeply enlightened. Classical education chooses the path of sustained interior lighting. Active, engaged and fire some stoking and not simply having a student look at shiny objects, but having the learner take that enduring cultural greatness and letting its beauty shine forth from within forever.

We are pleased to announce that Patrick McKeown, current headmaster of Chesterton Academy, will now be serving as the headmaster of the St. John Paul II Classical School! He will officially begin his duties today, July 1.

Welcome, Mr. McKeown, and congratulations on your selection as the next headmaster of SJPII!

GRACE is proud to present our school system educators who have been nominated for the Greater Green Bay Chamber’s 2023 Golden Apple Awards. GRACE is blessed with amazing teachers, and these nominees represent the excellence in faith-based education that occurs daily in our schools. Nominees include educators from all our GRACE schools this year, including Father Allouez Catholic School, Holy Cross Catholic School, Holy Family Catholic School, Notre Dame of De Pere, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, St. Bernard Catholic School, St. John Paul II Classical School, St. John the Baptist Catholic School, and St. Thomas More Catholic School. Today will be highlighting one of the wonderful teachers at Chesterton Academy of St. John Paul II Classical School, Mr. Guevara. He not only loves to imbue the faith in the students but is also the high school Biology, Astronomy, Algebra I, and Music teacher! Thank you for being so great, Mr. Guevara!

April shadow days are now available at Chesterton Academy! You can sign up for the shadow days online here or by calling (920) 617-9542.

Chesterton Academy of St. John Paul II Classical School welcomed our first class of ninth-grade students back in the autumn of 2021. Every year thereafter, we have added one grade level until we will celebrate their very first group of graduating seniors in spring 2025!

We embrace their motto Cultura Vitae, the culture of life. In this way, we heed Christ’s call to have our fullest life in Him. This intentional joy for life and learning is imbued in our classical curriculum with a strong emphasis on the development of Christian virtues and an appreciation of beauty.

New Chesterton Academy student Grace agrees, and recently shared the following about her experience at our school:

“Chesterton Academy has done so much in my life. I just started at this school and I have already seen so many changes in my own life. I have been pushed to learn more about my faith and who I am as a child of God. I am lucky enough to be able to include God in everything I do throughout every day at school and we always make sure that God is never put second.

Our daily routine, which consists of going to daily mass and praying before every class, has helped me to grow into a deeper relationship with Christ. I can also say that between the teachers who truly care about every student and the friends who never [exclude] anyone, the people at this school are truly amazing. I would honestly, with my whole heart, recommend this school to anyone who asks. The people that I am now surrounding myself with are not just looked at as just a group of friends, but they have become a family.

When I go to Chesterton Academy, I feel like I am where I’m meant to be. I genuinely love my school.”

We are so happy Grace is loving her experience at Chesterton Academy thus far. Many pleasant memories are yet to be made!
