St. John Paul II Classical School has three main fundraisers throughout the year. We encourage parent assistance for these events. They include the Walk for Virtue (fall), Calendar Raffle (winter) and the Gala (spring).
Walk for Virtue
St. John Paul II Classical School Walk for Virtues is a fun, faith-filled morning and fundraiser event that raises money for our school while promoting Christian virtues within our community! Each class will be asking for pledges and then walking in honor of a specific virtue:
EC and Kindergarten: Faith
First Grade: Hope
Second Grade: Charity
Third Grade: Prudence
Fourth Grade: Justice
Fifth Grade: Fortitude
Sixth Grade: Temperance,
Seventh Grade: Humility
Eighth Grade: Perseverance
As in the past, we will pray and walk for the virtues above. The students will be learning about their class virtue leading up to the event. After they complete the walk, the students will have a snack and recess at the park before returning to the school.
Playground Construction Project
The current playground for children enrolled in Early Childhood thru Third Grade at St. John Paul II Classical School is an open space of approximately 19,000 square feet on the grounds of St. Philip the Apostle Parish fronting Victoria Street.
Although the current playground creates opportunities for active play, it is limited in its ability to create opportunities for imaginative, sensory, and creative types of play. Research shows that those types of play are important to both the education and development of young children. The new playground will create additional play opportunities in a thoughtful way.
A recent survey of parents, teachers, administrators, and donors identified the lack of playground equipment and security fencing, particularly alongside a city street, as major shortcomings of the current playground. The new playground will address those shortcomings.
The same survey identified green space and the many natural features, such as a variety of trees and plants, as major benefits of the current playground. The new playground will enhance those features with thoughtful changes in landscaping.
We are seeking a total of $45,000 in funding to create a new playground for children enrolled in Early Childhood thru Third Grade at St. John Paul II Classical School.
Perimeter Fencing – to improve the safety of children using the playground, a four-foot-high chain link fence will be installed around its perimeter at a cost of $10,000. The fencing’s color and appearance will blend into the site’s natural environment.
Playground Equipment – to increase opportunities for active, imaginative, sensory, and creative types of play, a commercial quality playground set, appropriate for children ages 2 thru 12 years old, will be installed at a cost of $20,000. The set’s appearance and features will blend into the site’s natural environment.
Landscaping – to improve the playground’s natural environment, safety and opportunities for learning, a landscape design plan will be implemented at an estimated cost of $15,000. The plan includes the installation of safety surfaces under playground equipment, creation of a rain garden to improve drainage and soften the existing landscaping, replacement of a sidewalk through the site with a nature-trail-style deck/bridge, and the enhancement of an existing shrine to the Virgin Mary.
We want to better address the learning needs of children enrolled in Early Childhood thru Third Grade at St. John Paul II Classical School in Green Bay, Wis. by creating a playground with play opportunities that support the school’s educational goals, as well as create an environment, with opportunities for active play, imaginative play, sensory play, and creative play, that inspires children to appreciate the virtues of the school’s namesake, St. John Paul II, and his love of nature and the outdoors.
